Discover Bakersfield Nashville

Walking into Bakersfield Nashville feels like stepping into a lively corner of the city where the energy is loud, friendly, and unapologetically fun. I stopped by after a long downtown walk, and the first thing that hit me was the smell of freshly pressed tortillas mingling with citrus and slow-cooked pork. This spot sits right at 201 3rd Ave S, Nashville, TN 37201, United States, which makes it an easy meet-up for locals and visitors bouncing between Broadway and the riverfront.

The menu leans hard into tacos, tequila, and whiskey, but it does so with intention. Instead of overloading choices, it focuses on a tight lineup of classics done well. I watched the kitchen staff hand-press tortillas, a method backed by culinary research from the Culinary Institute of America, which notes that fresh masa dramatically improves texture and flavor. That detail shows up immediately in the bite-soft, warm, and sturdy enough to hold fillings without falling apart. The carne asada taco I ordered had a clean char and balanced seasoning, while the al pastor delivered that sweet-savory combo people chase but rarely find executed correctly.

What stood out during my visits is how consistent the process feels. A bartender once explained how their margaritas rely on fresh citrus rather than pre-mixed shortcuts. That lines up with data from the National Restaurant Association, which reports that over 60% of diners now prioritize freshness and transparency in drinks as much as food. You can taste that difference here, especially when sipping a house margarita alongside chips and salsa that actually have some heat.

Reviews around town often highlight the vibe as much as the food, and that tracks. The room buzzes, but it never feels chaotic. I’ve brought out-of-town friends here more than once, and it always turns into one of those bolded crowd favorites everyone remembers. One friend, a chef who trained in Austin, commented that the tacos reminded him of the bolded street style simplicity he grew up with, which is high praise coming from someone picky about Mexican-inspired kitchens.

There’s also something to be said for location. Being downtown could easily push a restaurant into tourist-only territory, yet this place keeps locals coming back. Part of that is pricing that feels fair for the area, and part is reliability. According to Yelp and Google reviews, repeat customers frequently mention fast service even during peak hours. From my experience, orders move quickly without feeling rushed, which suggests strong back-of-house coordination-a detail casual diners don’t always notice but professionals respect.

From a trust perspective, food safety and quality matter, especially in busy urban spots. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regularly emphasizes proper handling of fresh ingredients as key to preventing foodborne illness. Watching the staff here, gloves are changed often, surfaces stay clean, and there’s a clear workflow that minimizes cross-contact. That doesn’t guarantee perfection, but it does inspire confidence.

No restaurant is flawless, and this one isn’t trying to be everything to everyone. If you’re looking for an ultra-quiet dinner or an encyclopedic menu, this might not be your scene. But if you want bold flavors, a focused menu, and a place where tacos and drinks feel like a shared experience rather than a transaction, it delivers. It’s the kind of spot where you come in for one taco and end up ordering three, partly because the food is good and partly because the atmosphere nudges you to stay just a little longer.

  • We stopped in for a late lunch and were seated right away. While the hostess wasn’t particularly welcoming, she did get us settled quickly. Our server, Delaney, was warm and attentive, which set a great tone for the meal. We started with the chips and guacamole (10/10) — fresh, flavorful, and definitely the highlight. We tried a variety of tacos; while most were just okay, the short rib and Baja shrimp stood out as our favorites. All in all, it was a good experience.

  • Bakersfield has a fun, laid-back vibe with a mix of country charm and Latin flair. The space is roomy, lively, and perfect for groups or casual hangouts. It strikes that sweet spot between rustic and trendy Food & Drinks Let’s start with the queso — hands down one of the best dips I’ve ever had. It was perfectly warm, seasoned, and rich. My only wish? That they’d serve a bigger portion because it disappeared fast. The tacos were equally delicious. They’re on the smaller side, so I’d recommend ordering at least three and the mix-and-match options make it easy to try a variety. Drinks were solid too, well-crafted and refreshing without being overdone. Service & Hospitality Our server was awesome, friendly, helpful, and spot-on with recommendations. They made sure we had everything we needed without ever hovering. Unique Selling Point The standout queso and customizable tacos make Bakersfield a go-to for casual bites with big flavor. Whether you’re stopping by for drinks and apps or a full meal, the energy and food make it worth the visit.

  • One of, if not the best taco spot in Nashville. The Taco’s are all top tier. But my personal favorite are the chicken taquitos. The queso, chips and dip are top tier also. Of course the margaritas hit!

  • We always stop here for tacos and cocktails when we are in Nashville. The food, service, and ambience are fantastic! They have quite an extensive selection of bourbons and tequilas. We enjoyed the seasonal margaritas this time. Still can’t decide which we liked more, the cranberry ginger or the apple cider margs. Both were delicious! I tried the stuffed poblano and was literally blown away! It is my new fave at this restaurant and for $10, you can’t go wrong!

  • Coming from Texas, my expectations for Mexican food are pretty high, and while the food here didn’t quite hit that mark, it wasn’t bad either. The shrimp taco was definitely the standout, but the others were just okay. What really made the visit enjoyable was the exceptional service. We were helped by Maddy, Kenny, and Sarah — all of whom were kind, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Maddy was holding things down on her own behind the bar when we first arrived, and she handled it like a pro. Even solo, she made sure we were taken care of without missing a beat, and once the rest of the team joined in, the service only got better. Overall, while the food didn’t blow me away, the great service and welcoming atmosphere made for a solid experience.

  • We were quickly seated by the waitress and had the premier table. Anna was our waitress. She was fabulous. We had a Paloma and Margarita along with the pollo, carnita, short rib, and El Pastor. We also did the salsa trio. All were fabulous! Would recommend!
